Job Description

The Senior Building Automation Engineer position is responsible for providing an advanced level of expertise in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and servicing all aspects of building automation systems. This position will supervise/execute the installation and maintenance of automation systems that control such features as access control, CCTV, lighting, temperature, water heating. Job duties include providing cost estimates, designing, and wiring systems, checking software parameters, and training personnel in the use of systems. Building automation engineers must keep current on developing technology in their field.

This position may collaborate with other specialized technicians or subcontractors to perform facility-related repairs. Provides instruction, mentors and trains less skilled technicians as needed. Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements and solve complex monitoring and control problems.

Senior Project Engineers must have strong communication and customer service skills to be able to interpret customer desires and preferences and serve as intermediaries between customers and construction engineers. They also need the technical skills to troubleshoot design or installation problems, and the math skills to budget and manage projects. Senior Building Automation Engineers must have the ability to work with design software to design system schematics and must be comfortable with HVAC systems.

The Senior Project Engineer will design, install, and maintain a complete Building Automation System including integration to other low voltage control subsystems to meet the intent of the project requirements.

This includes providing detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, subcontractors, and the field installation team.

Position Responsibility Highlights:

  • Design and configure technically complex Building Automation Systems as defined by the contract documents. Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
  • Design and develop panel layouts, network layouts, wiring diagrams per customer and/or company standards as required.
  • Select material including DDC modules, field sensing and control devices, dampers, and valves to meet the project requirements, specifications, codes, and customer standards, as required.
  • Program DDC modules to meet exact sequence of operation, as required.
  • Manage resources required to program and/or configure the integration between multiple vendors using open and proprietary software.
  • Execute and/or manage resources required to configure system database for reporting, alarming and monitoring of Building Automation Systems.

Requirements

  • Engineering College or 4year technical degree and/or industry related engineering including HVAC Systems, DDC Systems, and software.
  • Five years of experience performing Building Automation System / Building Management System service and repair in commercial, healthcare, or pharmaceutical/biomedical environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledgeable in DDC applications pertaining to the HVAC/control industry.
  • Skilled in use of personal computer software Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, or the equivalent.
  • Knowledgeable in PC networking and advanced PC functions.
  • Ability to visit job construction hard hat areas and climb stairs, maneuver in and around pipework and air ducts and work safely near exposed line voltage and low voltage wiring and terminations.
  • Experience with BACnet and Modbus
  • Confers with stakeholders and prepares design modifications as required.
