Position Summary

GLI is currently seeking an Staff Accountantto oversee the organization’s internal accounting. The right candidate will have strong organization skills, excellent attention to detail, and a background in Accounting.

This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable including coding, data entry, check printing, mailing of payments, and quarterly audit of undeposited checks
  • Oversee the accounts receivable process including creating invoices, receiving payments, entering bank deposits, processing store orders, and sending out daily cash income reports to stakeholders
  • Work with all departments to ensure revenue and expenses are recorded in a timely fashion
  • Reconcile bank accounts and prepare investment schedules
  • Make journal entries and prepare for month-end close
  • Assist CFO with financial reporting to leadership and board of trustees
  • Manage Institute’s credit card account, including: processing charges, collecting receipts, coding data, and entering transactions into the accounting system
  • File necessary paperwork to ensure Institute’s compliance with tax and reporting requirements including but not limited to; sales tax returns, 1099s, and state registrations
  • Maintain accounting records including filing and scanning documents
  • Ensure Institute follows internal control procedures and recommend updates as needed
  • Prepare work papers for the annual audit
  • Additional responsibilities as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Strong proficiency in Excel
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks a plus
  • Connection to the Institute’s mission, American history, and/or K-12 education a plus
