Job Description

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Handles project-related work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and personnel policies and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, executives and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of governmental laws, insurance plans, and technical information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • BS degree in Human Resources or related field equal to years of service; field/HR certification with SHRM preferred.
  • PC literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Basic knowledge in labor laws.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish required.
  • 1-3 years prior Human Resource Generalist experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Prior Union experience required.
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and compliance programs (NLRB, ADA, FLMA, FLSA, EEO regulations/AAP, etc.).
