Senior Electrical Engineer - Substation Design

The Senior Electrical Engineer, Substation Design, will be working with our Pre-Sales Engineering teams and responsible for medium and high voltage design, scope review and cost evaluation in a variety of preconstruction services, design-build projects, and full turnkey projects for various utilities, IPPs, and private clients.

The Senior Electrical Engineer should not only be a great engineer, he or she also should be an effective communicator and team player. The position will require superior cross-functional skills including close coordination with CS Energy’s pre-sales, business development, post-sales, and operations teams in addition to interfacing with customers and other project stakeholders.

• Lead and develop all aspects of design for medium voltage (0.6KV 35KV), high voltage (35KV 220KV) and extra-high voltage (above 220KV) substation engineering, procurement and construction that meet all contractual, code, and permitting requirements
• Evaluate system design based on AC capacity, Inverter selection, main power transformer specifications, reactive power requirements, utility guidelines, SCADA and protective relay requirements, DTT/telemetry, site constraints and cost
• Generate substation interconnection costs based on utility interconnection studies, project design, constructability and schedule
• Provide value engineering solutions during development, proposal, pre-construction and construction phases
• Generate project scope of work and technical specifications based on project proposal requirements and bid documents
• Coordinate with 3rd party subcontractors amp; SCADA suppliers to obtain preliminary and detailed quotes and design packages based on project specifications and scope of work
• Lead engineering during the project interconnection approval process as the primary point of contact with the interconnecting utilities from the application process through final design approval
• Develop single-line, three-line diagrams and switchyard layout with required electrical details for solar PV interconnection in accordance with NEC, IEEE, NESC, utility interconnection tariffs and requirements, and local AHJ as necessary
• Attend meetings with clients, State and local permitting authorities, subcontractors, and vendors regarding engineering and technical issues
• Strong working knowledge in performing power system protection and coordination studies
• Experience in equipment acceptance testing activities involving SCADA, telemetry, control system checks, protective devices and schemes, grounding systems, regulators, capacitor banks, reactors electrical transformers and circuit breakers
• Ensure project team and subcontractors understand the scope of project and provide engineering support throughout the life of the project
• Mentor and train team members on project design, interconnection and construction
• Support/Lead development of standards, optimizations, and processes

Requirements

• A 4-year degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred)
• Ten or more years of design experience in Distribution substation engineering for utilities and renewable energy power plants
• Experience as an Electrical Project Engineer in substation type applications, including substation automation, SCADA, and control and relay protection
• Solar grid export interconnection experience highly desired
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Proficiency in ETAP and or SKM power system analysis software
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• PE License is a plus
