The Opportunity

JUST Capital is seeking a passionate and experienced Director or Senior Manager of Corporate Governance, Ethics and Leadership to lead our corporate research work on how companies can better serve their shareholders over the long term, and including matters relating to ethical leadership, governance, profitability and long-term financial performance. JUST Capital’s corporate research operations drive forward the mission, strategy, and deliverables of the organization by:

  • Identifying, collecting, processing data that measures how America’s largest corporations perform on issues identified by the public in as accurate and unbiased way as possible
  • Scoring, benchmarking, tracking, and analyzing company performance to produce JUST Capital’s rankings, indexes, and other research projects on corporate stakeholder performance
  • Maintaining subject matter expertise and conducting specific research work in key areas related to JUST Capital’s programmatic and investment initiatives to help make the business case for just corporate behavior

The successful candidate for this role will not only bring fundamental research expertise on corporate financial, governance and leadership performance but also technical rigor, entrepreneurial creativity, problem solving skills, and a passion for making corporate behavior more just. The differentiation between the two levels (Director and Senior Manager) will be based on years of relevant experience, depth and breadth of analytical skills, and subject matter expertise. The Director or Senior Manager of Corporate Governance and Leadership will report to the Head of Research.


The key responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Work closely with the Head of Research, Chief Strategy Officer, and Managing Director of Investment Products to build out a research strategy and workstream around corporate financial analysis, governance, ethics and leadership issues
  • Lead the research design and development of metrics to measure corporate behavior on serving shareholders on issues related to long-term profit generation, ethical leadership, and governance
  • Oversee data collection, acquisition, and verification for our Shareholders category of issues for use in our annual rankings and other research products, leveraging internal technology and data platforms to document and organize research work
  • Contribute to and refine our analytical and research modeling methodologies and capabilities
  • Design and execute on the creation of innovative research products and analyses, including trackers, reports, issue briefs, and other internal- or external-facing written content in coordination with our programmatic and investment initiatives
  • Develop and manage relationships with external research experts and partners
  • Maintain subject matter expertise around Shareholder category issues and contribute as an expert to external information requests to further inform the public and increase the stature of JUST Capital’s work and mission

Requirements

Research and Technical Experience

  • Familiarity and experience conducting fundamental financial research and analysis on publicly-listed corporations and/or policy analysis on corporate policies, practices, or behaviors related to corporate governance, corporate finance, ethical leadership, shareholder value creation, and other Environmental, Social, and Governance issues
  • Strong technical experience with research design and techniques, including data collection, data management, multivariate statistical analysis, equity analysis, and/or qualitative research leveraging tools like SQL, R, or Python
  • Experience using data vendor terminals (such as FactSet, Reuters or Bloomberg) and familiarity with corporate governance data vendors
