About the Role

As the Finance and Billing Associate, your primary responsibility will be to coordinate and manage the receipt of brokerage commissions so that revenue is properly recorded. A successful candidate has strong organizational skills, is detail oriented and is able to communicate in a clear manner. This position can be based in Stamford, CT or New York, NY.

  • Review incoming cash receipts (checks amp; electronic payments) and prepare for posting.
  • Identify the most efficient way to retrieve carrier commission statements to ensure posting in the current month.
  • Research unidentified cash receipts which will require creative thinking to determine the best course of action for proper handling.
  • Follow up on exceptions and discrepancies
  • Collaborate with other teams or insurance companies to resolve these issues.
  • Reconcile weekly and monthly the unposted commission balance to the general ledger.
  • Back up for other accounting areas as needed.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Problem solving skills
  • Solid communication skills: written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, and juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Ability to quickly learn
  • Able to work independently and as a team
  • Experience in an insurance carrier or brokerage environment a plus
  • Software: Quickbooks, Zywave Brokerage Builder
  • Startup experience a plus
  • 2-3+ years of progressive accounting experience
