The Assistant Project Manager works closely with the Project Manager to manage the full gamut of the construction process. This individual strives to understand how to develop and maintain positive relationships that result in long-term partnerships with clients, subcontractors and consultants. The Assistant Project Manager facilitates consistent and accurate communication with all parties involved in the project process. The individual is a key team member and assists to establish a project focus that includes; how the project fits with the clients’ goals while adhering to schedule and budget as well as the ability to identify project value and maximize the projects’ financial performance.
This position reports to the Project Manager and has direct supervisory responsibilities for Project Engineers (if applicable).
High Level Key Responsibilities
Project Management
o Responsible for reviewing Project Schedule to gain a complete understanding of critical path and ensure buyout, RFI resolution submittals, and procurement are completed to support the critical path
Facilitate consistent and accurate communication with all parties involved in the project process.
Assist Project Manager in monitoring schedule performance
o Assist in the buy-out of each trade to ensure a positive end result for both MPC and the Subcontractor
Prepare complete scopes of work for each trade - make sure all exposures are covered up front (even if not covered by original estimate)
Review amp; understand notes and comments on the bid tab under the selected Subcontractor
Prepare the Scope of Work for the selected Subcontractor using the bid tab, specification, design drawings, archived scope specific examples and your knowledge of what it will require to complete that scope of work
o Responsible for ensuring scoping, means and methods and schedule are synchronized between field operations and the subcontractors.
Ensure logistics are factored into scopes of work that are realistic with the project logistic plans.
Set up Schedule of Values with owner approval prior to first billing
Act as a proactive liaison between Owner, Consultants and Subcontractors
Assist with and communicate conflicts/issues with clients and subcontractors to Project Management
Provide clear direction, responsibilities and expectations to the Project Engineer
Oversee and review the work of the PE to ensure they are performing all tasks at a high level and report and deficiencies up to project management
Send pertinent contract information to the Project Engineer to process the Subcontracts / Purchase Orders
Provide project management support to project engineering to assist in the facilitation of the submittal and RFI process
Train and develop successors
