Wowza's IaC (Infrastructure as Code) team has operational responsibility for the infrastructure powering our web services and cloud platform that serve millions of global customers and viewers. Additionally, our team also works to establish monitoring systems and alerting for service reliability and security, while also helping maintain automated build processes for various teams within the organization.
As the technical lead of our IaC team, you will develop technical architectures, prioritize features, scalable automation, capacity planning, adoption of supporting technologies, and all other aspects
of maintaining a world-class cloud based video processing service. You will be working closely with the Vice President of Engineering, the Chief Architect and the software engineering teams developing media processing applications and focus on driving scalability, stability, reliability, operability of services, and security. You have a passion for teaching and mentoring others, and an intense dislike of single points of failure.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a BS or MS (Preferred) in Computer Science or equivalent experience, with 10+ years building and scaling distributed systems leveraging enterprise scale technologies such as Kubernetes.
- Has demonstrated experience building highly scalable platforms and fault tolerant systems using a range of technologies, including Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Is experienced with more than one public cloud service, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Has designed, written, and built tools to instrument and improve the reliability, latency, availability, and scalability of cloud services.
- Has created, designed, and documented new architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale enterprise systems based on Kubernetes.
- Is experienced performing root-cause analysis of complex problems involving multiple parties, networks, hardware and software that related to scaling and performance.
- Is experienced with Linux internals and network services and protocols such as DNS, iptables, TCP, UDP, network load balancers, CDNs, and proxies.
- Programming experience in one or more of the following languages: Ruby, Shell, Java, Python, Go.
- Background working with Helm, Terraform, or similar tools, and familiarity with CI/CD platforms such as CircleCI.
We have an especially strong interest in candidates who have also have experience with media streaming technologies such as HLS, DASH, WebRTC, SRT, or RTMP as well as prior experience in
a technical leadership role.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize state-of-the-art technologies like Kubernetes to engineer, design, and administer scalable back-end systems using microservice-based architectural best practices.
- Cultivate an in-depth understanding of Wowza's core platform and serve as an advocate for DevOps practices. Coach end mentor diverse engineers across Wowza to use best practices and lead the IaC engineering efforts.
- Implement organized, declarative infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Helm templating, and GitOps pipelines.
- Collaborate as an active member of a cross-functional agile team, working with our engineering teams to build and deliver highly available video streaming services.
- Participate in quarterly Innovation and Planning sprints to freely contribute to and take part in Wowza's culture of creativity and invention.
- Manage Wowza's 24x7 always-available video infrastructure, while striving to eliminate downtime and improve the manageability of our systems and eliminating operational toil.
- Lead incident response for production incidents; drive investigation, analysis, and troubleshooting to resolve production incidents and systematically drive down incident detection and mitigation times. Perform post-mortems and optimize incident response processes.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $165,000 - $200,000
