SmartNews is looking for a new addition to our Content team to keep us up-to-the-minute on breaking news and other events during the evening. We’re seeking a news person on the West Coast who enjoys the fast pace of real-time events, has a knack for digital tools and is nimble enough to troubleshoot and report tech problems while monitoring Twitter and other sources for breaking news.
In this role you will oversee the SmartNews app on weekday evenings, and on occasional weekends and holidays. The role will focus on monitoring for and sending breaking-news alerts to our millions of users, and performing quality checks on the key news channels in the app, which feature news from hundreds of publishers in the U.S. and around the world.
SmartNews’s content team is responsible for content quality assurance, creating and building new content experiences within the app and delivering news through push notifications. This is a work-from-home position on a 1099 contractor basis, with dial-in meetings once per week and occasional in-office lunches and activities once permitted. Rate is commensurate with experience. We are looking for a minimum six-month commitment, and a candidate based in the Pacific or Mountain time zone.
