Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Center Education Coordinator, this position is responsible for providing comprehensive early childhood services in compliance with program guidelines, policies and procedures. The Infant/Toddler Teacher is responsible for integrating the curriculum by creating lesson plans, and developing individual child goals to meet the needs of children, including observing, assessing, and documenting children’s progress. In addition, the Infant/Toddler teacher is responsible for maintaining active supervision of children, and providing ongoing communication with parents including home visits, parent conferences and other events. The Infant/Toddler teacher is responsible for ensuring all requirements are met within the classroom and the classroom is meeting criteria of a high quality program. This includes overseeing the individualizing of programming for children both within the teacher’s primary care group and within the teacher assistant’s primary care group.

Essential Functions (Not All Inclusive):

  • Provides comprehensive services for children 6 weeks to 36 months of age maintaining compliance of the program’s guidelines and performance standards (including MN Rule 3, Child amp; Adult Care Food Program), and strictly adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality and ethics when working with children, parents and peers.
  • Creates and implements detailed and comprehensive lesson plans appropriate for very young children using Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos, which include activities that support goals to achieve measurable outcomes based on observations and results of the program’s child assessment tool (TSGold).
  • Ensures lesson plans incorporate caregiving routines as well as learning activities to individualize for all children in the classroom based on individual child-level goals.
  • Actively engages in developmentally appropriate classroom activities, such as child-directed free play, caregiving routines and floor play. This includes formula preparation (for infants) and diaper changing.
  • Responsible for the recording of authentic observations and documentation for all children in the classroom to accurately measure progress towards school readiness goals.
  • Observes each child on a regular basis in all developmental domains to establish individual child goals that are meaningful and measurable.
  • Closely partners with families to build relationships and ensure smooth transitions between home and classroom. This includes daily written communication provided to families regarding the child’s day, which must include successes, challenges, classroom routines, and self-care (e.g., diapering and potty training, napping, and meal consumption, etc).
  • Designs a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment. Inspects the classroom, indoor and outdoor space daily ensuring that materials are safe and removing or repairing unsafe equipment. Participates in emergency drills.
  • Focuses on developing trauma-informed universal classroom supports, utilizing and following a social-emotional curriculum.
  • Teaches and develops children’s social emotional skills using evidence-based strategies to teach, model, and reinforce positive behaviors. Will be required to produce a material-rich environment to stimulate social interactions among children, including expected routines, rules and social expectations.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field with relevant coursework required.
  • 6 months experience in an Infant or Toddler classroom required.
  • Experience with Early Childhood Special Education preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation on a daily basis is required.
  • Physically capable of reacting to the demands of active children under 3 years old.
  • Ability to effectively relate and communicate to people of varying multi-ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

Benefits

Department: Head Start

Starting Salary: $21.56/Hr

  • Salary increase at 6 months and 12 months (upon successful completion of probationary period)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 Hours/Week, Full Year
