Organizational Overview:

Since being founded locally in 1985, Make-A-Wish Illinois has granted more than 15,000 wishes and continues its mission to share the power of a wish with children in all 102 counties across the state.

A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a critical illness. This belief guides us in everything we do at Make-A-Wish. It inspires us to grant life-changing wishes for children going through so much.

Life-changing wish journeys are made possible by dedicated staff and volunteers who fulfill the work of our mission, helping children discover, create, fulfill, and experience the lasting impact of their most heartfelt wish.
We are recruiting for the following Summer 2021 Internships: Community Engagement, Marketing amp; Communications, Referral Outreach amp; Talent.

Descriptions for each are found below and you will select the internship you would like to be considered for on the next page.

All internships with be 12-18 hours a week.


Community Engagement Intern

DESCRIPTION

This internship provides firsthand experience in community building and content creation for media outlets along with a comprehensive view of nonprofit operations. The Community Engagement intern works with the Community Engagement Team to help coordinate activities to ensure and enhance service and presence throughout the state.

Daily Assignments Include:

  • Research, writing, preparing and submitting press releases and other media communications including interviewing wish families and volunteers by phone or video call.
  • Organizing off-site outreach activities to help support community awareness
  • Contacting assigned parent groups or referring organizations and individuals
  • Assisting with data entry and community resource research
  • Additional outreach projects as needed


Marketing amp; Communications Intern

DESCRIPTION

This internship provides real world experience in creating content for various communications channels. Interns will write wish stories, support social and digital media projects, and learn more about the strategic communications of a nonprofit.

Daily assignments include:

  • Writing projects that include research and phone/video interviews
  • Supporting media relations as needed by updating contact lists, distributing assets and related activities
  • Tasks related to analyzing and reporting marketing activities
  • Supporting digital asset acquisition, recording and permissions
  • Other duties as assigned


Referral Outreach Intern

Description

This internship is focused on helping our families get started on their journey with Make-A-Wish. As families and medical professionals inquire about Make-A-Wish, the intern will screen referrals for review by our Referral Outreach Team. The intern will also follow up with the medical teams to secure intake and medical eligibility forms. As time permits, the intern will also assist with Referral Outreach activities to help us reach as many children as possible.

Daily Assignments Include:

  • Assisting with screening calls
  • Assisting with Welcome Calls
  • Assisting with data entry related to wish children and families
  • Reviewing referral information
  • Assisting with preparing collateral materials for outreach events
  • Other duties as assigned


Talent Intern

Description

This internship provides candidates with a first-hand view of how Make-A-Wish Illinois recruits, engages, and develops our diverse workforce of volunteers and staff. Responsibilities include assisting with recruiting and interview processes for staff, volunteers, and interns; maintaining volunteer records; assigning volunteers to event opportunities; and helping with team engagement initiatives.

Daily Assignments Include:

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment
  • Support for virtual internship program to include recruitment, engagement, and training.
  • Maintaining volunteer records in accordance with Make-A-Wish America standards
  • Assisting with our recognition and engagement programs
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Community Engagement Intern

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel
