UnboundEd is dedicated to ensuring that education systems disrupt systemic racism by providing students of color meaningful, engaging and affirming grade-level instruction. We are a team of former classroom teachers, curriculum writers, and school and program leaders dedicated to empowering educators to meet the challenges set by higher standards, unfinished instruction, and institutional racism. We provide immersive instructional equity professional development, free high-quality standards-aligned resources for the classroom, and other professional learning opportunities for teachers, coaches, and leaders. We thrive in working collaboratively and work to dismantle white supremacist structures within our own organization and within the education system.

ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Research, Strategy and Evaluation, the Director, Research, Strategy, and Evaluation (RSE) at UnboundEd is a new position in this growing arm of the organization. The Director, RSE is responsible for creating and maintaining the numerous processes, systems, tools, and approaches for data collection, analysis, and federal, state, and district compliance for all RSE projects, working cross-functionally with internal staff as well as with external partners. The Director, RSE is a seasoned professional who has operationalized multiple structures for increasing participation and engagement of participants in research and evaluation studies across various K-12 programs and offerings.

UnboundEd is a virtual organization and this employee can be based anywhere in the United States. UnboundEd has core business hours where we expect all staff to be available from 10 am to 6 pm ET and occasional travel will be required once it is safe to travel again given the current COVID-19 pandemic.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

Operational efficiencies for data collection (30%)

  • Owns developing and operationalizing a common set of data collection processes and systems for evaluating UnboundEd’s suite of programs, services, and offerings, including the creation and/or adoption of systems, processes, and tools necessary to gather useful data for continuous improvement and understanding of UE impact.
  • Be the cross-functional lead who operationalizes and troubleshoots such processes, systems, and tools with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate across internal teams to ensure appropriate data collection protocols are being followed, and to support their efforts to have partners and participants engage in data collection.
  • Schedule meetings and maintain relationships between internal staff, external collaborators and participants, as needed, to effectively implement all aspects of all RSE projects.

RSE Compliance (30%)

  • Owns organizing and managing human subjects and institutional research board requirements for federal, state, and district compliance. This includes ensuring all data sharing agreements with partners has us compliant with all rules.
  • Leads compliance maintenance with Information Security rules to ensure protection of personally identifiable information is secure.

Dissemination (20%)

  • Owns creation and upkeep of the RSE repository of results and findings, and support internal stakeholders’ use of these resources for marketing, sales, and foundation needs
  • Establish information sharing structures and routines across all RSE projects.
  • Support the development of white papers, journal articles, and presentations on RSE efforts.
  • Present findings at practitioner and/or research conferences.

Project Management (20%)

  • Manage and monitor the status of the entire suite of RSE projects (e.g., milestones, deadlines and deliverables), ensuring deadlines for RSE output are met.
  • Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of data collection tools, data output, and analyses.
  • Manage consultants to ensure they have the data they need and are meeting targeted deadlines and deliverables.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with progressive responsibilities in applied research, program design and evaluation, including managing large-scale projects with multiple stakeholders in the K-12 education field.
  • Experience creating operational systems, tools, and processes for data collection and management.
  • Experience engaging participation in research and evaluation efforts, including follow-up efforts to engage impact across time.
  • Other equivalent combinations of relevant experience and training will also be considered
