SmartNews is looking for an intern on our Content team to support our critically important local news features and to aid our continual efforts to improve news recommendation.
The ideal candidate is a journalist at heartsomeone who understands the news and who won’t hesitate to get their hands dirty to deliver it to usersbut can also think like a product manager and always keep in mind the strategic picture.
In this internship, there’ll be opportunities to participate in key aspects of SmartNews’s content operations, from helping to build machine-learning models to conducting quality checks of our massive library of local. This person may also work on daily news tasks, including carrying out live quality checks of SmartNews, which features hundreds of major publishers from the U.S. and around the world.
SmartNews’s content team is responsible for content quality within the app, creating and building new content experiences and delivering news through push notifications. This is a hybrid in-person and remote internship on a 1099 contractor basis. Rate is commensurate with experience. We are looking for a minimum six-month commitment, and a candidate based in the Pacific or Mountain time zone.
