Job Description
Impactual seeks an enthusiastic self-starter who has a passion for politics, philanthropy, and making a difference. At Impactual, everyone plays a role in accelerating impact. This exciting position is for an experienced and well-rounded designer with an interest in showcasing expertise in establishing a clear, creative vision for all Impactual and client materials.
As a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager at Impactual, you will report to the firm’s Design Director and work with our firm’s partners, other staff, and clients to devise and deploy innovative strategies at the intersection of culture and social change. While Impactual is not a creative agency, the Design Manager will devise design concepts and strategies for client projects and leave a beautiful, creative mark on all Impactual products. The Design Manager will be excited to think outside the box and push the envelope of traditional nonprofit/political design, leading on an array of projects to: help clients develop and adhere to brand guidelines; create compelling materials that showcase the work of clients; and assist with Impactual’s own brand management.
Please note: Much of the work product Impactual produces for clients is not forward-facing/ public. The Design Manager will be an integral part of the Impactual team, presented with a unique opportunity to work on a myriad of interesting projects, but the public portfolio you will build will be more limited than at a traditional creative agency.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Design and Creative Direction
- Conceive and implement concepts, brand guidelines, and strategies in various creative projects and oversee them to completion;
- Collaborate with Impactual team members to obtain knowledge of the clients’ requirements;
- Lead brainstorming/creative sessions to generate ideas;
- Write and design unique and well-crafted copy that meets the needs of Impactual and our clients;
- Revise content and presentations, approve/reject ideas, provide feedback to the team;
- Ensure visuals, messaging, and interactive elements of a project are properly aligned with the creative vision and brand standards;
- Deliver compelling, visually appealing work product that includes but is not limited to branding; presentation decks; digital and print reports; social media, email and web design.
- Project Management
- Establish schedules for short-term and long-term projects, plan tasks accordingly, and ensure goals and deadlines are met;
- Monitor results of team efforts and actively propose systems or process improvements for the future;
- Mentor, motivate, and collaborate with other staff members to ensure their own work product meets established brand guidelines;
- Manage freelance copywriters and other contracted members of the creative team as needed.
Requirements
- A seasoned designer. You have 3+ years of experience (5+ for Senior Manager position) developing dynamic, well-thought-out, human-centered, and compelling design. You are enthusiastic about producing powerful print and report design, decks, social media posts, branding, and website designs and have the ability to translate complex written information and concepts into infographics. You are familiar with what it takes to build and execute new creative designs from scratch. Others easily understand your thinking and get excited about your work. You dream big, and you channel that creativity through to a concrete plan. But also have a meticulous attention to detail and proclivity for clean layouts. You have a strong proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Sketch, with the ability to translate beautiful designs into Pages, Keynote, Google Docs/Slides, and Powerpoint. Exceptional typography skills and illustration and animation experience are a plus.
