The mission of the CSBio Community Foundation is to serve first-generation, low-income students in the Menlo Park and East Palo Alto communities. The Emerge Scholars Program hopes to be a one-stop shop for a small cohort of students, providing all the support they need to be successful in college and beyond.
POSITION SUMMARY
A brand-new organization, CSBio Community Foundation is looking for an inventive nonprofit professional who enjoys a challenge, is comfortable working alone, and wants to help build this organization from the ground up. The program manager will spearhead the process of creating and implementing this new organization.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Spearhead the nonprofit application process (articles of incorporation, the appointment of boards of directors, etc.)
- Set up the physical space for the program (handle rent and negotiations)
- Utilize program proposal to organize program elements
- Recruit students for the program and lead program marketing efforts
- Lead the application selection process with support from the founder
- Refine the scope and sequence of the program and implement program curriculum
- Reach out to a list of suggested business and organizations to create community partnerships
- Implement, manage, and stick to the organizational budget
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the organization upon inception
- Create an open and supportive environment for the students in the organization
- Manage the hiring and training of a growing team of engagement professionals
- Develop intentional relationships with students that help strengthen their identities as low-income, first-generation college students
Requirements
- Program coordination or community organizing experience and/or bachelor’s degree
- Experience: 5+ years in the nonprofit field and/or in non-profit management
- Demonstrated commitment to the vision, values, and mission of -
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a culturally and educationally diverse staff and program clientele and to maintain systems for open communication
- Demonstrated ability to administer a program and budget of comparable scope and complexity
- Deep understanding of the communities of East Palo Alto and Menlo Park
- Deep understanding of the college admissions process and hurdles facing first-generation, low-income students (of diverse identities)
- Passion for fostering community and creating meaningful and helpful college preparation experiences
- Ability to speak, read, and write in the English language
- Great verbal and written communication skills required
- Computer Technology proficiency
- Ability to work in a fun, creative, and fast-paced environment
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly
- Ability to be a self-starter in the workplace, manage one’s own time and list of tasks
- Preferred (but not required) bilingual in English and Spanish or Vietnamese or Tongan
- Complex and creative problem-solving ability
