Job Description

Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement (Riis) is a community based non-profit organization that offers comprehensive services to the youth, adults, seniors and families in the Western Queens community.

Riis Settlement seeks a NNORC Director with excellent organizational and communication skills to address the needs of the older adult residents of the NNORC community by providing or ensuring access to services that help residents extend their independence, improve their quality of life, and avoid unnecessary hospital and nursing home stays. The successful candidate will be able to manage and supervise a small staff including Case Manager, Interns, Nurse Consultants and volunteers. In addition, the candidate will come with a working knowledge of budgets and be able to plan activities without budget overruns. She/he will know how to plan and organize activities, managing contracts, and understand the importance of building good rapport with stakeholders (ex. State/ City Program Managers, funders etc.) and stay abreast of current governmental and city policies that may affect the NNORC program and/or program population. Must have a genuine interest working with older adults.

Requirements

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a small team which includes two staff and nurse consultants.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the NNORC Case Manager
  • Supervise and coordinate the Interns, volunteers, and in-kind components
  • Manage the NYSOFA contract and manage its multiple outcome and reporting requirements
  • Manage discretionary or other NNORC grant services as assigned
  • Provide required reports to senior administrators and funders (as needed)
  • Coordinate NNORC services with other community agencies and stakeholders.
  • Be a liaison between stakeholders/ collaborators connected to the NNORC component (i.e. NORC Director and community meetings, etc.)
  • Responsible for the inputting of data regarding the NNORC into appropriate databases
  • Perform hands-on duties such as talking with seniors, participate in activities etc.
  • Report to the Director of Senior Services on a regular basis regarding successes and challenges of the component
  • Attend internal and external meetings/trainings to support the sustainability of the program and services
  • Other responsibilities as directed

  • Master's Degree in Human Services 2 years related experience
  • Bachelor's Degree In Human Services four years of related experience
  • Experience managing multiple budgets and contract requirements
  • Experience working within a non-profit community based organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing supervision of comprehensive case management services to a large caseload of a targeted population
  • Ability to Multi-task, organize and prioritize efficiently
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both written and verbal and Professional presence
  • Knowledge of Entitlements, Medicaid, Medicare amp; Managed Care
