ORGANIZATION

LEAD Charter School, a YouthBuild school and NJ's first single sourced charter high school, seeks an exceptional English teacher to join the efforts of a community that’s poised to transform equity through opportunity for young people in Newark. The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 in Newark, NJ to master the essential skills crucial for success in, career, postsecondary education, and community leadership within a global society. LEAD implements the Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN) school model. Key design elements support the unique career training, academic progress, and non-academic needs of students who have disengaged from traditional schooling. The innovative NOYN model re-engages young people via active participation in rigorous and relevant content, and standards-driven competency-based instruction aligned with emerging market demands. Through applied learning opportunities with partner organizations and corporations, LEAD prepares students to compete in the local economy and/or transition to postsecondary education. OPPORTUNITY

The goal of the Literacy at LEAD Charter School is to collaborate closely with the school’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Student Support Services , and other school leaders to ensure that teachers are planning/executing lessons and developing classroom-based cultures that promote high levels of student achievement and excitement for learning. The Literacy Coach in conjunction with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and other school leaders will ensure that every content area classroom and literacy intervention focuses on improving students' literacy habits and skills through emphasis on student motivation, engagement, and achievement.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range is $76,500 to $85,000. A comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and vision (with employee contribution, health reimbursement benefits, optional insurance via AFLAC, enrollment in the NJ State pension system (TPAF or PERS), and vacation and PTO days are also offered by LEAD Charter School.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ten-month employee. Salary to be recommended by the School Leader and approved by the board.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction and Leadership

  • Lead the planning process to ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of the instructional model
  • Lead the implementation of of school-wide literacy plan and literacy improvement
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the Individual Development Plans that serves as the framework for successfully providing personalized learning experience for all students
  • Develop and lead professional development sessions for the instructional staff as necessary and/or as requested by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Organize, manage, evaluate and supervise effective procedures for the operation of the school’s instructional vision consistent with the instructional model
  • Provide ongoing consistent support to teachers for the implementation and instruction components.
  • Lead curriculum mapping process, weekly common planning and data meetings
  • Observe classes regularly across contents and provide teachers with feedback on content delivery, rigor and strategies.
  • Ensure necessary accommodations and modifications are implemented regularly in every classroom so that each students academic needs are met
  • Establish procedures to evaluate and select literacy instructional resources and provide school leaders with these recommendations and requests in a timely manner.
  • Model outstanding and highly effective teaching for instructional staff.
  • Co-plan and co-teach with instructional staff
  • Willing to teach one section of related content, if necessary.
  • Support and/or manage extended learning opportunities to support young people afterschool and/or during Saturday school,

Administrative Leadership

  • Attend and support all school-wide events.
