ORGANIZATION
LEAD Charter School, a YouthBuild school and NJ's first single sourced charter high school, seeks an exceptional English teacher to join the efforts of a community that’s poised to transform equity through opportunity for young people in Newark. The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 in Newark, NJ to master the essential skills crucial for success in, career, postsecondary education, and community leadership within a global society. LEAD implements the Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN) school model. Key design elements support the unique career training, academic progress, and non-academic needs of students who have disengaged from traditional schooling. The innovative NOYN model re-engages young people via active participation in rigorous and relevant content, and standards-driven competency-based instruction aligned with emerging market demands. Through applied learning opportunities with partner organizations and corporations, LEAD prepares students to compete in the local economy and/or transition to postsecondary education. OPPORTUNITY

To lead implementation of the LEAD Charter School’s instructional model, support the growth and development of instructional practices and student achievement in preparation for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership. The Master Teacher will have a reduced instructional teaching course load in order to provide teachers with ongoing coaching and feedback.

Reports To: Director of Curriculum and Instruction

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ten-month employee. Salary to be recommended by the School Leader and approved by the board.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively implements the components of LEAD Charter school’s instructional model
  • Provide ongoing consistent support to teachers for the implementation and instruction components.
  • Lead curriculum mapping process, weekly common planning and data meetings
  • Model outstanding and highly effective teaching for instructional staff.
  • Co-plan and co-teach with instructional staff
  • Deliver effective differentiated tailored instruction
  • Ensures satisfactory student progress and growth toward stated objectives of instruction.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives including positive attitudes toward learning.
  • Develops effective procedures for the management of the classroom and following school routines.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom, school building and school grounds and exercises due care for the health, safety and well-being of the students in accordance with the philosophy and rules of the school.
  • Confers with students and parents to foster a constructive student-teacher and parent-teacher relationship.
  • Accurately maintains appropriate student records and submits required reports within designated time limits.
  • Supports the effective implementation of Individual Development Plans
  • Adheres to and promotes the philosophy and objectives of the school, the administrative staff and the Board and interprets the policies and program of the school in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the administrative staff in accordance with the contractual agreement or policies of the Board of Trustees.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Valid New Jersey Teacher Grade 9-12 Certification or Certificate of Eligibility in Mathematics required
  • Supervisor Certification or Certificate of Eligibility preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least five years of teaching experience with consistent student growth
  • In depth knowledge of high impact instructional practices
  • Experience providing professional development to classroom teachers
  • Capacity to personalize coaching and instructions through differentiation practices
  • Demonstrated success in raising student achievement with underserved populations.
