FirstMile is looking for a Manager in Training to join our organization as an individual contributor based in our Salt Lake City warehouse. We need a team player with a passion for innovation and the desire to partner with a business to achieve outstanding results.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and thoughtful leader with the ability to ensure efficient and timely operations by effectively running a sort machine, can lead, train and coach a staff that can consistently meet KPI’s and work with our driver fleet to oversee our daily pickup and delivery operation. This shift generally starts around 12pm and will end around 9pm. Keep in mind this may fluctuate slightly

Key responsibilities and essential functions of the Manger in Training role include, but are not limited to:

The Day-to-Day:

The manager in training will run all aspects of the sort, pickup and delivery operations and report up to our Director of Xparcel Operations.

The right candidate will be able to adapt and multi-task. This position will cycle through learning all aspects of our business. It will require spending time on our sort machine, learning how to sort and properly place packages. It will require learning the pickup and delivery operations, including knowing our routes and being able to drive should a driver call in sick or be out on PTO

The right candidate will help put in place and refine process to insure timely and reliable service performance via our scanning, sorting, induction, pickup and delivery network of our facility operations personnel.

Linehaul load outs. Need to effectively manage cost and time of these lanes as well as overseeing the dispatching of these nightly lanes, close trucks, create master bills of lading, and send out nightly communications.

Oversee and direct personnel to create Xparcel delivery routes using Route Smart and Raas programs, sort deliveries, stage for next day and assign appropriate vehicles and drivers.

Create a culture of safety among the staff. Set a strong example and consistently be looking for gaps in the safety plan and always be coaching staff on safe practices.

  • The right candidate is also comfortable filling in for team members when needed.
  • Our manager in training will work closely with our Director on filling vacant slots both at the driver and dock worker position and will help recruit, screen, and train new hires.

Reporting and analysis of key operating metrics on a day to day basis to ensure operating performance objectives are being met

Lead, train and coach staff to maintain and grow work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.

Create, set up, schedule, rearrange as needed and execute pick up delivery routes with our drivers

Be involved in and make recommendations in hiring, performance goals and terminations as well as be able to stay properly staffed and hire the correct number of employees for the tasks at hand.

Any other assigned duties.

Hours generally run from 12pm to 9pm Monday thru Friday but may vary.

Ability to work rotating weekends

Material handling, straight truck and forklift experience.
