Job Description

The HALO Trust (USA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization specializing in the removal of landmines and other explosive remnants of war, with projects in 25+ countries and territories employing almost 9,000 people. HALO’s Washington, DC office works with foundations, government partners, international agencies, and private donors to increase awareness of the impact of landmines and ERW on post-conflict communities and to raise funds to support HALO’s teams working overseas.

HALO USA is seeking an enthusiastic summer intern who is interested in philanthropy, development and international affairs to support private philanthropy staff.

Interns are involved in projects critical to the daily work of HALO and the position will give you valuable insight into international development work and fundraising for an international NGO.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Donation processing and sending tax receipts to donors
  • Assisting with donor stewardship tasks and sending thank you letters, notes and materials to donors
  • Inputting data in HALO’s CRM system (Salesforce) and assisting the Philanthropy team with data management
  • Provide support for on-going development activities including prospect research, grant research and drafting small grant applications, as needed
  • Supporting the philanthropy team with donor webinars
  • Assisting in editing and writing donor reports and correspondence
  • Writing drafts for internal and external communications and briefings for the Head of Philanthropy and/or Executive Director
  • Other tasks as needed

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications / Skills:

Applicants should be highly organized, flexible, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with a strong interest in the humanitarian sector and nonprofit fundraising. We are looking for the following skills:

  • Strong academic background and an interest in HALO’s mission
  • Current or incoming graduate students, graduate students, or recent grads
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior experience in fundraising or philanthropy is preferred, but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite (including Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Prior experience with Salesforce or another CRM system is a plus, but not required


Location: Mostly remote, but intern should be based in the D.C. area and be able to occasionally visit the office under safe conditions.

Duration: June 2021 August 2021

Type: Part-time, 20-25 hours per week

Compensation: DC minimum wage ($15 per hour)

Reports to: Development Officer
