Firstleaf/Penrose Hill is looking for an Enologist to report directly to our Director, Winemaking. In this multi-faceted role, you will provide the winemaking team guidance with regards to chemistry related decision making. You'll also provide the winemaking team with time, accurate data and analysis to guide purchasing and winemaking decision. This role has the opportunity to be hybrid scheduling.

A few examples will illustrate some of your challenges

  • Manage all lab related tasks, including coordination of lab analysis, interpretation and recording of results both in house and externally
  • Ensure accuracy of all in house analysis through scheduled maintenance and calibration of equipment
  • Ensure all record keeping in Vintrace is up to date, accurate and in compliance with TTB standards
  • Participate, assist, and contribute to weekly sourcing, blending, fining, and finishing tastings
  • Assist in research and development of new lab equipment, treatments, and processes to increase efficiency, cost or quality of finished products

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, ideally Food Science or Enology or an appropriate combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years winery experience, lab management is preferred
  • Background or experience in Scientific Research is preferred
  • The ability to stay organized and transparent in a rapidly changing and fast-growth environment
  • Interest in staying on the forefront of research and development with regard to understanding of chemical attributes in wine and their effect on perception
  • A passion for wine, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, Vintrace, Smartsheets
  • Detail-oriented, self-starter, highly organized
  • Proactive communicator and problem solver a must
