Editas Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Senior / Principal Research Associate to join our ophthalmology discovery group. In this role you will contribute to the development of novel cell-based assays and ex vivo methods to evaluate the extent and effects of gene editing. An ideal candidate should have a background in cell culture, molecular biology, a track record of creative thinking, and a strong interest in genome editing. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary discovery team dedicated to the development of gene editing-based therapies for genetically treatable ocular diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development and optimization of cell-based assays
  • Perform DNA/RNA extraction and qPCR, ddPCR, Western blot, and ELISA
  • Perform ex vivo tissue dissection and isolation of cells and DNA/RNA from tissue
  • Analyze and present data within the organization
  • Share responsibility in maintaining lab equipment and reagent inventory
  • Maintain an electronic lab notebook and contribute to supporting documentation

Requirements

Requirements:

  • BS and 4-7 years or MS and 3 years in cell biology or related field with 4+ years of laboratory experience preferably in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry
  • (Required) Experience with mammalian cell culture, including primary cells
  • (Required) Proficient in molecular biology techniques, such as western blot, qPCR and ddPCR
  • (Preferred) Experience developing and validating immunoassays (immunofluorescence and ELISA)
  • (Preferred) Expertise in tissue dissection, experience performing microdissection, isolation of DNA/RNA from tissue
  • (Preferred) Familiarity with microscopy, including high content imaging
  • Experience troubleshooting assays, including consulting the literature for potential precedent
  • Results-driven with excellent attention to details and ability to independently execute protocols
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment
