Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Director, Revenue Accounting is a key leadership role and will be responsible for the direction and oversight of the full cycle revenue process. The position will develop policies/systems and review contracts to ensure that review is recorded in compliances with GAAP and will be responsible for the design, testing and performance of the associated controls. This role will coordinate with our external auditors for SOX ICFR and financial statement audits as well as act as the main contact for the business development team.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure revenue is accurately accounted for under US GAAP rules (ASC 606), ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements for the revenue team, and continuously improve the quality and timing of revenue recognition reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly deliverables for the Disclosure and Audit Committees
  • Partner with the sales team to review and approve client discounts and pricing methods to ensure adequate margins are met
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop annual operating plans, sales quotas and variable compensation plans
  • Support the planning and coordination of external financial reporting timeline with key stakeholders
  • Supports the preparation of the financial statements and drafts management’s discussion and analysis (MDA), including all disclosures
  • Reviews financial statement supporting documentation and prepares ad hoc financial analysis and support as needed
  • Researches accounting literature and applies technical standards and analysis of complex or non-recurring transactions
  • Assist with documentation of technical accounting memos, detailing facts, circumstances, and accounting treatment of complex accounting transactions
  • Monitors and assists in evaluating FASB/SEC/PCAOB reporting developments
  • Supports accounting initiatives, including financial reporting and disclosure implementation of new standards, as they are released and become effective
  • Monitors peer group filings to identify industry trends and best practices for disclosures
  • Collaborates with the department supervisors/managers and their staff as needed
  • Handles monthly close activities related to revenue process, including journal entries
  • Works with others on team to develop/improve documentation schedules and reports, to address analytical and reporting needs
  • Maintains a consistent process with effective controls
  • Assesses related procedures for internal control/SOX considerations
  • Serves as primary point of contact for auditors on revenue testing
  • As directed by management, leads/assists on various cross-functional teams, including projects on process improvement and standardization
  • Assists with other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

Minimum Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with a degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • CPA certification
  • 10 years minimum relevant finance experience

Other Required

  • Experience with designing, implementing, and documenting policies and procedures in a SOX environment
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) and a demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions and departments
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Confidentiality and Integrity - must be able to represent and model integrity within the organization. Must possess and maintain the highest degree of security and confidentiality of information
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
  • Self-starter with a proven ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and deliver on commitments
  • Ability to maintain high ethical standards of integrity and quality
  • Must be able to read, write, speak fluently and comprehend the English language

Physical Requirements

• Requires the physical abilities to lift, position, push, pull, and/or transfer materials in excess of 20 pounds. Also requires dexterity in the fingers, hands, and arms to type, write, and manipulate small technical devices.

• Requires the mental and visual ability to view and concentrate on a computer screen and small technical devices.
