Job Description

Shockwave Medical, Inc. is a pioneer in the development and commercialization of Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) to treat complex calcified cardiovascular disease. Shockwave Medical aims to establish a new standard of care for medical device treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease through its differentiated and proprietary local delivery of sonic pressure waves for the treatment of calcified plaque.


Position Overview

The Staff Ramp;D Electrical Engineer will use design and technical skills in the development of innovative electronic products to treat peripheral and heart valve diseases. The Staff Ramp;D Electrical Engineer will participate on multiple cross-functional development teams that manage projects from concept through commercialization and will perform and support a variety of development and engineering activities with primary focus on analog electronic circuit design and development.


Essential Job Functions

  • Design and development of high-voltage analog circuits and control electronics for use in medical devices.
  • Prototype and develop proof of concept designs and bench models to test these concepts in a simulated environment.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain test methods.
  • Develop new and novel products based on user defined needs.
  • Translate user needs into design inputs/product specifications.
  • Perform schematic capture, PCB layout, and manage prototype builds.
  • Develop technical specifications from specific user requirements.
  • Develop, execute, and document system test plans.
  • Develop, execute, and perform functional verification of systems to medical device standards.
  • Work with cross-functional team engineers to develop new design concepts.
  • Participate in system-level technical design reviews to ensure all design inputs and user needs are addressed.
  • Initiate and conduct PCA design reviews with EE team.
  • Troubleshoot complex electronic systems to the component level.
  • Provide support in the company medical device auditing processes.
  • Enhance the intellectual property position of the company via invention disclosures and patent applications.
  • Take a leading role in the management of assigned projects.
  • Support pilot manufacturing as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering with 8+ years’ design and development experience, or a Master’s Degree with 5+ years’ design and development experience.
  • Extensive experience with schematic capture tools, and PCB layout of high-voltage analog circuits.
  • Experience with analog circuit modeling tools.
  • Experience in the development of medical devices.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with all levels of management and organizations.
  • Experience in all product design phases from concept to production.
  • Familiarity with C language programming and embedded systems design.
  • Ability to adapt and reprioritize to changing requirements.
  • Design experience with FPGA’s using VHDL or Verilog is a plus.
  • Power Supply design experience is a plus.
  • Experience with lasers and pulse discharge systems a plus
  • Employee may be required to lift objects up to 25lbs.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Experience in catheter based cardiovascular devices development is a strong plus
