Job Description

The Sr. Product Designer will lead the charge in developing and establishing a design system that aligns our product roadmap against strategic goals by collaborating with other Designers, Product Managers and Engineers to deliver a high-quality, consistent experience across our platform.

We’re the largest competitive gaming organization serving high schools and educational institutions in North America focused on making esports available to every student as a legitimate sport in schools throughout the U.S. We achieve this by making it easy for faculty to offer students the chance to engage in healthy esports competition, surrounded by peers while supervised by teachers. Through organized esports competitions, students are learning to align their commitment to gaming with their success in academics and potential future careers.

We’re on the verge of transforming youth athletics for generations to come. Generation Esports is a technology company at its core, building a platform to service youth competitive esports from young kids to college students. We’re looking for a Sr. Product Designer to help us dramatically improve and refine the customer experience across the user journey and within the application. Our product roadmap is full of features that can enhance the future of today’s youth through esports and we want a passionate Sr. Product Designer to help us deliver the best experience possible!

This role will give you the opportunity to collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing teams to deliver world-class designs catered to the needs of competitive esports players, coaches and administrators.


Role Responsibilities
  • Create impactful, intuitive design solutions that align with the needs of a wide range of user personas.
  • Champion user-centered design thinking.
  • Create and maintain an extensible design system by curating design patterns and code components as shared libraries.
  • Proactively tackle problems and opportunities in the customer experience by collaborating with other teams and stakeholders to prioritize and resolve issues.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes and other design artifacts that effectively communicate product features, design decisions and testing strategies.
  • Lead and conduct usability tests to determine product requirements and incorporate feedback into the final design that address customer needs and pain points.
  • Mentor less experienced designers and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews.
  • Use metrics and data to define and report on the success of design initiatives.
  • Create journey maps and user flows that guide UX strategy and inform team lead and stakeholder conversations.
  • Communicate and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to clearly articulate your design ideas and processes.
  • Assist with other organizational initiatives where design plays a key role.

Requirements

  • 6+ years experience supporting UI/UX product design.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment with product managers and engineers using a cohesive design system.
  • Strong portfolio, including work on interactive and mobile applications.
  • Experience conducting research and applying research insights toward design strategy.
  • Proficient with modern design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma and Sketch.
  • Strong collaboration skills. Able to work productively across disciplines while being a strong advocate for solutions that are aligned with requirements.
  • Servant-leadership mindset.
  • Working knowledge of UX design principles and activities including user research methods, comparative/competitive analysis, persona creation, etc.
  • A solid understanding of front-end development and technology.
  • Detail-oriented, curious, collaborative, and self-starting.
  • Preference for function over aesthetics.
  • Portfolio of previously executed designs.
  • Experience working on projects with multiple designers, developers, and stakeholders.
  • A desire to work with a fun, growing team of developers and design professionals.
  • Excellent communication, writing skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Like to play video games :)

Bonus Points
  • Experience with mobile app design in a SaaS environment.
  • UI/UX Certification.
  • Experience conducting UX Research to unpack complex usability issues while building a deeper understanding of customer goals.
  • Experience working with distributed teams across multiple time zones.
  • Knowledge of the esports industry, as an enthusiast, gamer, or professional.
  • Familiarity with designing for accessibility.
