Big Spaceship is looking for an experienced Director, Research amp; Analytics to help us evolve our cultural intelligence practice and share insights with our clients, partners, and potential clients.

You are eternally curious you’re always reading, listening, watching, and sharing your opinions on the latest in human behavior, strategy, product innovation, and big (maybe scary) ideas. You geek out on research, and love uncovering new insights around people and culture that drive creative work. You have a deep understanding of qualitative research and love using that research to tell rich stories about people, categories, trends, and culture. You stop at nothing to get to an answer and use creative thinking to come up with innovative and alternative research methodologies.

Roles amp; Responsibilities:

  • Partner with our Director of Analytics to co-lead Research amp; Analytics discipline
    • Set the vision for the discipline and develop/manage more junior members of the team
    • Create research trainings and lead trainings within and across disciplines
    • Create an approach to measuring response and engagement with Director of Analytics that can set Big Spaceship apart and potentially lead to new work
  • Clarify and simplify Big Spaceship’s approach to gathering and distributing qualitative insights internally
    • Evaluate and optimize what Big Spaceship is capable of delivering from a research perspective with the resources we currently have and identify where we need to invest
    • Validate and challenge existing hypotheses about the content and platforms we should use
    • Figure out an approach to share knowledge and distribute learnings internally - across disciplines and accounts
  • Define an approach to Big Spaceship insights products (e.g. Reveal, Internet Brunch, Platform Updates) as well as tapping into insights that arise as part of our client work, and select external writers/thinkers
    • Establish a strong POV on topics and trends for Big Spaceship to own the conversation about, grounded in a mix of primary and secondary research
    • Work in partnership with internal teams to continually guide internal and external stakeholders towards bold and innovative topics, and identify long-term opportunities outside of given briefs
    • Establish yourself and other Big Spaceship discipline leads as thought leaders in those topic and trend areas, including authoring and presenting on thought leadership, and thoughtfully editing and partnering with team members
    • Use our insights products as the backbone to help us engage executives, marketing professionals, makers, and thinkers interested in new insight and thinking
  • Author (and/or outsource) content and launch across selected platforms, supporting the broader insights practice
    • Identify tools, partners, and platforms that would be additive to our research amp; insight content practice
    • Help our team identify new tools and research partners to identify insights and perspectives that lead to breakthrough work for our clients
    • Create an internal/external distribution plan leveraging existing Big Spaceship platforms (e.g. social channels, email lists)
    • Act as the research lead at Big Spaceship and across new business and existing partnerships; support on new business pitches and client work, as required
  • Ultimately, partner with our content team to launch an internal insights ‘newsroom’ and continually bring research to life
    • Research and author thought leadership programming and content, focused on new insights and topics of interest
    • Maintain a deep understanding of culture, identifying shifts in the landscape
    • Manage internal and external researchers, strategists and authors to develop timely content for our community and beyond
