Avant Gardner is currently seeking a full-time Contract and Compliance Manager to oversee, administer, and ensure compliance and completion of all venue and event-based contracts and any related insurance matters. We are searching for a diligent and professional individual to join our quickly-growing team. You will be responsible for ensuring our business contracts, procedures, and accounting systems comply with legal regulations and internal policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Negotiating and drafting client, venue rental, artist, promoter, co-promotion and production agreements
- Edit agency contracts and add boilerplate addendums when necessary
- Event contract drafting, editing, and disbursement
- Accounting contract follow-up to ensure proper billing and payment scheduling and follow-through
- With new and diverse events taking place every weekend (sometimes even more frequently), handle event-specific insurance
- Compile, review and evaluate Certificates of Insurance. Work directly with brokers on all insurance related requirements, cases, and applicable language.
- Support for event-related legal matters, escalating to external counsel when required.
- Drafting contract summaries and assisting with other special projects including deal tracking, maintaining team databases, and administrative matters
- Reviewing and approving legal contracts for execution by management; advising Production Management on contract administration and compliance
- Data entry (including coordination of document scanning), revising and updating databases and spreadsheets, and all aspects of document delivery
- Manage and investigate in-house claims and insurance carrier claims, including providing supporting claims documentation, coordinating defense strategies and negotiating settlements with claimants, carriers and third parties
- Preliminary review of legal matters, maintaining relationships with all specialty areas of external counsel
- Ensure contract documentation is in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Respond to requests for information and interpretation
- Work closely with programming, production staff, and independent contractors to draft and administer compliant and comprehensive contractual agreements for shows
- Prepare budget projections needed for company contracts, premiums, claims, and costs related to managing and defending claims
- Experience with and understanding of New York State Workers’ Compensation and incident reports required to liaise with the People Team for related matters
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- JD helpful but not required
- 3+ years of directly related experience, preferably at a venue, entertainment law firm, production company, or music company on the business/legal affairs team
- Working knowledge of, and interest in live events and the business/legal side of the music industry
- Reasoning skills including the ability to identify legal issues; interpret and analyze comments from opposing representation and in response, apply company policy; and to negotiate complex, multi-layered projects
- Strong drafting, negotiation (including ability), communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills
- Impeccable ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Well organized, detail-oriented, and the ability to work independently
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel
- Cooperative, positive, team-focused, detail-oriented personality
