About the role
Cover Genius is seeking a driven Director of Insurance for the United States to lead the development and execution of the company’s insurance partnerships and product management for deals across multiple business verticals in the United States and to manage our growing insurance and warranty product and partnerships team. You will have deep insurance industry knowledge, product development and portfolio management experience, and a great network in the U.S. insurance industry.
The role will report to the COO Americas and work closely with the local and global teams to identify, cultivate, structure and close complex deals with sophisticated distribution partners. You will be responsible for the achievement of local and regional distribution capacity across the U.S., manage the insurance and warranty product and partnership teams, and be a subject matter expert across multiple insurance lines.What your work week will involve
  • Leverage existing connections to build and cultivate a deep and trusted network amongst influential decision makers within key target organizations within the insurance industry.
  • Become the primary owner of current deals in the United States, including product and portfolio managing, auditing requirements, and reporting and responding to regulatory authorities.
  • Identify, develop, structure, negotiate favorable commercial terms, and close complex insurance insurance partnership deals.
  • Define best practice for partnership identification, onboarding and implementations using your industry knowledge and experience in the industry.
  • Actively nurture and develop active partnerships to maximize value for the business.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure pitches to prospective partners are delivered effectively with clarity on the product solution.
  • Onboard new partners with our locally based Client Solutions Engineering team post deal close, ensuring timely delivery of solutions that meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Take full ownership of regional deal flow and revenue targets for the region.
  • Grow the Cover Genius brand through representation at industry events and broader networking.
What the ideal profile looks like
  • University degree in a related field.
  • 7+ years experience in the insurance industry, underwriting or broking experience preferred but not essential.
  • Insurance product development experience in the U.S. market.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. regulatory landscape including product and rate filing processes, and the requirements for distributing insurance products on surplus lines.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance and/or captive insurance preferred but not essential.
  • Demonstrable track record for working with partners/stakeholders to develop new insurance products that have successfully launched in-market.
  • Deep and strategic understanding of insurance underwriting and pricing principles.
  • Ability to think strategically to design solutions and then translate those solutions into actionable programs of work.
  • Strong network amongst U.S. insurance carriers and broader industry.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional teams (Incl. sales, business development, product and finance) to deliver high quality outcomes to timelines.
  • Appetite and enthusiasm for working as part of a small collegial team that is not afraid of getting their hands dirty and supporting each other.
  • A proactive bias to action, and drive to achieve results.
  • Collaborative and curious mindset, open to exploring new ways of doing things.
  • Excellent people and project management skills.
