Job Description

At Courier we are on a mission to make computer-to-human software communication delightful. Our first step in achieving this is to do for notification infrastructure what Stripe has done for payments infrastructure. We’ve created the complete communication stack for developer teams.
Our API takes the tedium out of integrating various notification channels, while our Studio lets anyone design a message template and deliver the right message to the right user at the right time with a single API call. Email, Push, Slack, SMS, you name it.
We’ve raised $12.5 million from Bessemer Venture Partners, Matrix Partners, Twilio, SendGrid, Slack, and Y Combinator. We're fanatical about delivering an amazing experience to software developers of companies big and small; if you are too, we should talk!
More than two-thirds of our team joined in the past twelve months. It’ll likely be something similar at the end of next year. In order to support that kind of team growth, we are going to build world-class processes around recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding. That’s where you come in!
You will be the first and, for now, only person in your role. As the owner and builder of this function, you will need to develop and execute on your own vision for hiring and onboarding from near-scratch. You will take complete ownership over a critical part of the employee experience and transform it from the ad-hoc processes we conduct today to a seamless, well-oiled machine. You will assist hiring managers on all teams at Courier in providing all prospective candidates and new hires with the best experience they have ever had during a hiring process.
You will be expected to take ownership and execute without defined instructions and implicit direction. We're looking for candidates who raise the level of our team. You should value and practice transparency, have the humility to accept your weaknesses and continuously strive to improve both personally and professionally.Responsibilities
  • Design and own the candidate experience for anyone interviewing at Courier from start to finish.
  • Take ownership of our applicant tracking system, ensure all data is accurate and up to date, and relentlessly track down interviewer feedback to keep our hiring on track.
  • Build the greatest onboarding experience anyone has ever seen to welcome new hires to the team and get them up to speed quickly including: new hire swag and engagement, payroll coordination, communicating benefits and how to use them, compliance onboarding, working with hiring managers on process onboarding, and other administrative duties.
  • Provide employee guidance for benefit questions and open enrollment support.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with contingent recruiting firms. You will not be responsible for recruiting.
  • There will be scope to take on additional responsibilities as the role evolves.
Requirements
  • 2+ years experience in People Operations or Generalist roles preferably in high-growth startups.
  • You care about people and are motivated by providing positive experiences across all interactions.
  • Self-motivated individual who can demonstrate initiative, maturity, and discretion. We don’t micromanage at Courier.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize and manage many tasks at once. This is a startup - you need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities and requirements can change at a moment’s notice.
  • Detail-oriented - nothing slips past your eye.
