We are looking for an Associate Counsel with 1-2 years of experience to join our growing legal team. This role provides a unique opportunity to assist with the creation and development of a legal department to support the company’s growing business and provide support as we scale.Responsibilities:- You will work cross functionally with the revenue, compliance, security, marketing, product, and engineering teams to provide practical legal advice.
- You will draft and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements.
- You will lead efforts in preparing, implementing, and refining various contract templates, processes, and procedures.
- You will play an integral part in establishing a legal function at Ocrolus, including systems implementation, policy drafting, and process education and roll out.
- You will work through new legal issues involving artificial intelligence, intellectual property ownership, and privacy.
- You will develop a deep understanding of the company’s business model and expand your skill set through assisting with other types of general legal work, including compliance, employment, corporate governance, fundraising, regulatory, and international issues.
Requirements:- J.D. required. Bar admission and in good standing in at least one state (New York state preferred) or the ability to register as in-house counsel in New York.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience managing risk and compliance as applicable to a variety of business units and ability to anticipate and advise on risk with a commercial mindset based on the needs of the business.
- Ability to work independently and also be a team player with a great can do attitude.
- Agility and comfort managing simultaneous workloads, multiple stakeholder demands, and shifting priorities within a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
- Passion for finding creative solutions to interesting legal questions.
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal stakeholders and translate legalese into plain language.
