Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Staff Engineer - Machine Learning Platform to establish the Machine Learning Engineering (MLE) function at Hinge.In this hands-on role, you will architect infrastructure that powers our machine learning applications and enables our data scientists to efficiently and effectively build and deploy models. This is a highly impactful role both in terms of affecting the user experience on the app and advancing the company’s MLE capabilities. Responsibilities- Determine the mission, responsibilities, and identity of the MLE discipline at Hinge.
- Establish and execute a roadmap to evolve the infrastructure that powers our ML products.
- Build tooling to empower Data Scientists to accelerate the model development and deployment process.
- Improve the monitoring and observability of our production models and pipelines.
- Provide thought leadership on technical direction and best practices.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists and Product Managers to understand their Machine Learning needs.
- Partner with and get buy-in from other Engineering disciplines to integrate the ML workflow into Hinge’s stack.
What We're Looking For- 5+ years of experience as ML, backend, or data engineer with 2+ years of experience in building machine learning systems.
- Proficiency in a programming language (such as Python, Java, or Go), SQL, and shell scripting.
- Experience with data pipelines, workflow managers (e.g. Airflow), event streaming platforms (e.g. Kafka), CI/CD systems (e.g. CircleCI, Jenkins), container technologies (e.g. Docker), and orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes).
- Experience with large scale data processing tools such as Spark.
- Technical leadership experience in architecting and establishing a roadmap for ML infrastructure and getting buy-in for the resources and tooling necessary to build that infrastructure.
- Superb communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, especially the ability to understand and translate stakeholder needs into technical requirements.
- Nice to have: Working knowledge of basic machine learning principles and methods, with interest in and aptitude for developing further expertise.
