As part of our team, you will be a thought leader and business advisor on a diverse range of cutting-edge legal issues as we leverage technology to redefine residential real estate investing and make it accessible to all. As our head of Product Counseling, you will be responsible for managing the legal and regulatory elements of the design, build, and execution of our products and services.In this role, you will be a critical advisor to the Roofstock teams who scope, build, and deliver our products and services to our users.What You Will Do:
  • Partner with the product and various operational teams (e.g., Retail Marketplace, Investment Services, Stessa) to ensure our products, flows, marketing, and processes comply with law and ensure a great user experience.
  • Advise our product, marketing, marketplace, owner services, engineering, and business development teams in connection with issues relating to real estate investments, privacy, consumer protection, truth in advertising, and other regulatory issues.
  • Explain complicated legal concepts to multiple stakeholders in easy-to-apply guidelines.
  • Learn new lines of business, learn those teams’ goals, learn new laws and regulations, and apply all to your advice.
  • Be a trusted and careful counselor in brainstorming, ideation, go-to-market plans, launch, and post-launch evaluations.
  • Exhibit good judgement, nurture our business teams’ creativity, bring (or at least invite) solutions to the problems you identify, and collaborate with the Legal Team
  • Partner closely with the General Counsel.
What You Bring with You:
  • JD from a top law school.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience (ideally a combination of experience at a top law firm and in-house at a consumer-facing technology company).
  • Knowledge of and experience applying overlapping statutory frameworks and industry guidelines including consumer protection, privacy, fintech regulation.Experience with the following would be helpful, but are not all required for you to be successful in this role: TILA, CCPA (potentially GLBA in the future), EFTA,RESPA, real estate regulations generally, TCPA,general UDAP and FTC Act, Safeguards Rule (Privacy)).
  • Experience with or genuine interest in real estate, proptech, and/or fintech.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications to clearly and concisely convey complicated legal concepts.
  • An all-for-one, one-for-all team player attitude.
  • An ability and passion to learn new things every day, ability to deal well with ambiguity, and an entrepreneurial spirit to solve problems.
  • A passion for making real estate investing unintimidating and accessible to all.
Bonus Qualifications (these should not deter you from applying):
  • Knowledge of and experience in data security, privacy, and fintech regulations.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial transactions including partnerships, licensing, and vendor agreements.
