As an intern for the antibody discovery and engineering team, you’ll work closely with scientists in both Research and Development to advance Alector programs forward. You will help contribute to a variety of programs across our portfolio. You will have an opportunity to apply your existing technical skills and learn new skills in a fast-paced environment where the focus is on solving critical issues in neurodegeneration and oncology. Successful interns may have a path toward full-time employment upon completion of training.During the internship, you will:
  • Learn valuable technical and interpersonal skills while gaining experience in a dynamic, fast-growing, research-focused company
  • Recombinantly produce novel antibodies using a mammalian cell expression system
  • Perform small scale affinity purification and buffer exchange of antibodies
  • Conduct assays to quantify and characterize antibody candidates
  • Perform molecular DNA cloning and purification using bacterial cell expression systems
  • Communicate and collaborate with project teams
  • Present your work and receive feedback from industry experts
Requirements
  • We'd love to hear from you if:
  • You are a current undergrad or grad student, with a major or majoring in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, molecular biology, or a related scientific field
  • You are currently enrolled in a post-graduate program in biotechnology or another related discipline
  • You have hands-on experience with common molecular biology techniques such as PCR, plasmid DNA isolation, electrophoresis, molecular cloning, aseptic mammalian cell culture and/or bacterial cell culture
  • You have experience or familiarity with one or more common protein analysis techniques (NanoDrop, SDS-PAGE, BLI, etc)
  • You are able to work hard and have a strong desire to learn from experienced industry professionals
  • You take pride in being a self-motivated person, fast learner, team player, and creative problem solver
  • You have a point of view but are low ego
This is a paid internship for a current undergraduate or graduate student. Local candidates are highly preferred. Housing and transportation are not included. The expectation is that the intern is at Alector during normal working hours, with the flexibility to be 3-4 months in nature.
