The Controller leads the organization’s accounting and financial functions ensuring that proper controls exist throughout the company and that financial and job cost reports are prepared and distributed in accordance with GAAP on a timely basis. This position will lead and develop a team of accounting professionals and have primary responsibility for the general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets and job costing functions of the organization. The Controller will also be responsible for ensuring all corporate tax returns (Federal, State, Sales amp; Use, Property and others) are prepared and filed on a timely basis. The position requires a strong mix of financial technical skills, business acumen, relationship management and team leadership.


Responsibilities:

  • Directs and manages the monthly, quarterly and annual close process in accordance with GAAP within the agreed upon deadlines.
  • Prepares and distributes monthly, quarterly and the annual reporting package as defined to internal and external stakeholders. Responds to inquiries on a timely basis.
  • Perform ongoing analysis of current and projected financial performance which includes job cost analysis. Prepare variance analysis to budget and prior year results.
  • Manages and reviews monthly account reconciliations from direct reports.
  • Manage the accounts payable process ensuring expenses are correctly coded and captured in the correct period, disbursements are made timely and vendor accounts are reconciled on a consistent basis.
  • Establish and implement short/long term departmental goals, policies, and operating procedures that ensure efficient and effective processes, controls and compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
  • Properly account for work in process to ensure revenue is recognized as services are rendered.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal reporting requirements including assisting our outside tax firm with the filing of all tax returns including sales tax returns as required.
  • Direct and coordinate the annual financial audit process and tax return preparation process with outside accountants.
  • Foster and mentor the continued professional development and growth of direct reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High degree of business acumen.

  • Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA and or MBA preferred.
  • 3 -5 years proven experience leading an accounting team preferably in the event, distribution, construction or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP.
  • Experience in job costing.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax financial regulations.
  • Excellent computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, database programs and report writing. Experience with Microsoft Office applications and Sage 300 Accounting Software or similar accounting application preferred.
