Job Description

About ActivTrak:

ActivTrak is a cloud-based platform that provides productivity insights into how teams work, improving employee and customer experience, while also enabling better business outcomes. At ActivTrak, we recognize the powerful link between these two concepts and we're on a mission to understand it more every day. Alongside 9500+ paying customers, our team uses the platform internally to assess team and organizational performance, hone product features, develop best practices, streamline processes, invest in new innovations, and promote a culture of immediate feedback and transparency.

We are a fast-growing, agile company with a forward-thinking, inclusive culture. Our teams are encouraged to collaborate daily to solve challenges, create and champion new ideas, and execute initiatives that help global customers and their modern workforces succeed by working better together.

Requirements

What you will do

ActivTrak is looking for an engineering manager to serve as a technical contributor and people manager on our Agent team. The team owns each phase of development with embedded product management, operations, and systems software engineers as well as full-stack engineers. They are responsible for feature design, development, performance, deployment, and bug fixes for the lifecycle of the product. We work together in two-week sprints and the team participates in shared on-call duties.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the engineers and help them collaborate with the larger team and drive shared results. You will ensure your team has the support and direction they need to build features that push the ActivTrak platform forward. You will leverage your strong technical background to contribute to the design and architectural discussions - coach first, player second. You will join the team in maintaining the software they write and provide support through on-call rotation. Above all, you will support the career growth of our engineers, and continue to drive change and improvement within our organization.

As a systems software engineer, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of the Agent portion of our technology stack, where strong low-level Windows and Mac skills are necessary. You must be able to write code that can operate in a myriad of customer environments (OS versions, browsers, networking) and diagnose/troubleshoot problems that are a result of functioning in a complex computing ecosystem.

Required Experience

  • 3 - 5 years of experience leading, coaching and mentoring a team of software engineers.
  • Giving constructive feedback to help your direct reports grow in their careers.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain new team members.
  • Improving software delivery and operational processes, both within the team and working with peers in management across Engineering.
  • Collaborating with Product, Design, and Engineering leads to ensure consistent and high-quality software delivery.
  • Joining an on-call rotation to respond alongside engineers to rare instances of downtime.
  • An interest in promoting an inclusive team culture where engineers of diverse backgrounds can grow and contribute.
  • A willingness and desire to build teams that others will learn from.
  • Ideally managed or worked with a distributed or hybrid distributed/collocated team.
  • 5-8 years of experience developing C++ applications
  • Experience with the latest C++ language standards; i.e. C++20 and beyond

Nice to Have

  • Modern CMake
  • Browser extensions and native messaging
  • Mac OS X systems skills
  • Windows service development
  • Windows Win32 library
  • Cross-Platform C++ Development
  • Experience with SQL: SQLLite, MySQL

Benefits

Work environment:

  • Position is remote within US
  • Minimal travel
  • Limited physical demands
