YouthBuild USA, located in Roxbury, MA, is the nonprofit support center for YouthBuild programs. It provides technical assistance, innovative program enhancements, quality assurance systems, and advocacy to help ensure that every YouthBuild program can create impact in its community.

AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program engaging full-time volunteers in national service for one year, during which they build capacity and sustainability.

Currently, more than 50 YouthBuild VISTA members serve at 35 YouthBuild programs in 20 states annually. Over 650 YouthBuild VISTA members have served at local YouthBuild programs since 2009. Our VISTA members are YouthBuild graduates, young professionals, former teachers, military veterans, returned Peace Corps members, midcareer professionals, and retired professionals. All have a contagious spirit of service and a commitment to join YouthBuild students and staff in creating a more just and equitable world.

Job Summary

The VISTA Program Associate is a developing leader who will be committed to enhancing and improving our national AmeriCorps VISTA partnership. The VISTA Associate is a problem-solver, relationship builder, and focused on improvement and excellence. They are responsible for recruiting, training, and monitoring 50 YouthBuild VISTAs annually with a focus on impact, process, and facilitating a positive service experience.

Requirements

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Problem Solving

  • Identify key challenges in recruiting VISTAs and common problems inhibiting service experiences.
  • Explore opportunities to improve the process to recruit VISTAs and our systems to support VISTAs.
  • Implement new processes to drive impact and maximize the impact of VISTA service.

Relationship Building

  • Collaborate with local site supervisors to create VISTA assignments focused on building capacity in a priority area for their YouthBuild program.
  • Connect with YouthBuild supervisors to clarify policies and implement processes to ensure the VISTA member is set up for success in their service.
  • Facilitate orientations with new VISTA members and their supervisors.
  • Engage VISTAs and supervisors in check-in calls to identify successes, challenges, and questions.

Improvement and Impact

  • Coordinate a system to recruit skilled and talented AmeriCorps VISTA members.
  • Measure the impact of YouthBuild VISTA via monthly, mid-year, and end of year reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all AmeriCorps VISTA policies through tracking of service hours and conducting monitoring visits.
  • Enhance a professional development framework so all YouthBuild VISTAs acquire news skills, experiences, and expand their professional networks.

Other Duties/Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to develop into a program manager, while working in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be a collaborator with a can-do attitude and enjoys solving problems. This role will be expected to both pay attention to the details of grant compliance as well as think big to infuse new ideas to expand national impact of our VISTA program.

Skills amp; Knowledge Required

  • Associate degree or relevant certification with 3+ years of experience or a bachelor’s degree with 2+ years office experience, preferably with national or community service experience
  • Experience working in youth development organizations
  • Computer and internet proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, and SharePoint experience a plus; strong skills in Excel and web navigation
  • Strong administrative, written, and verbal communication skills (editing, phone follow-up); comfortable
