Job Summary

The Advocacy Associate is a full-time, hybrid position, combining remote and in-person work in the Boston area, and reporting directly to the Director of Advocacy and Policy. The ideal applicant would be a motivated learner with a passion for and understanding of federal, state and/or local political policy advocacy. The Advocacy Associate will support the YouthBuild USA Advocacy Team in bridging the gap between decision-makers in the Administration and Congress and local YouthBuild programs to make the case for policy and funding decisions that will benefit those programs and the young people they serve. The applicant must be well organized, savvy, professional, and an outstanding communicator. The applicant should be highly motivated, have excellent time-management skills, and demonstrate sensitivity to working with people of diverse cultural, political and religious backgrounds.


Requirements

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

The Advocacy Associate will assist the Advocacy Team in a number of essential roles related to data collection and presentation, materials production, and tracking topics and personnel in the Administration and in Congress. Additionally, the Associate will support the Advocacy Team in organizing YouthBuild Capitol Hill Days, both virtual and in-person.

  • Coordinate with other teams to maintain updated materials showing the impact of YouthBuild’s work for advocacy purposes (e.g., fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations, etc.)
  • Track relevant policy topics, including workforce, education, service, criminal justice, and international development, in media, research and publications from a variety of sources and perspectives for the Advocacy Team
  • Provide weekly digests of trending ideas and opinions related to YouthBuild USA’s areas of interest
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Team to enhance YouthBuild’s visibility with elected officials and other stakeholders; amplify key advocacy events, initiatives, and campaigns; monitor social media for YouthBuild’s topics of interest; and track local programs’ engagement with key policy areas
  • Assist Field Mobilization Manager in mass outreach communications to the field of programs as well as to subsets of the field aligned by category or interest
  • Track and maintain updated mapping of both chambers of Congress (Members and staffers) and key staff positions within the administration
  • Maintain an internal calendar of YouthBuild Advocacy events as well as those of partner organizations and coalitions
  • Support the Advocacy Team in tracking and documenting field participation and conversations related to federal advocacy in team and organizational databases.


Other Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing materials for and scheduling Capitol Hill Day meetings for 23 instances per year
  • Support the inclusion of advocacy in YouthBuild USA’s public and field-facing events
  • Other duties as assigned


Education amp; Experience Required
