Brooks Internship Program:Brooks Running hosts summer internships at our Seattle HQ offices to provide hands-on, meaningful work experience to further enhance your education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real work, and projects while working side by side with Brooks employees and leadership. If chosen for this role, you will join a cohort of interns at Brooks and embark on a summer of learning, professional development, and exposure to the Brooks brand and culture.
Internship Details:Duration: 3 monthsDates: June - August or September 2023Location: Seattle, HQSchedule:40 hours/week
This Opportunity:Our Finance Team is a seeking an Accounting intern to work at our Seattle, HQ offices. This position will work closely with the General Ledger Accounting team, which is responsible for the completeness and accuracy of our Income Statement amounts and Balance Sheet balances presented within the internal and external financial reporting packages. Two responsibilities of this team in which you will work most closely are accounting for our inventory (otherwise known as the best running gear on the planet) and the production of the financial reports themselves.Through this opportunity you will understand the value of and help maintain our internal control processes related to inventory by performing daily control activities and preparing month-end journal entries to ensure inventory-related amounts are recorded within the appropriate period. You will gain exposure to the holistic business by helping to prepare the quarterly financial reporting package for delivery to our parent company. And you will develop your understanding of the composition of a Finance department through meetings with variance members across our Finance team.Your Impact (Responsibilities):
  • Perform daily three-way match procedures over inventory purchases working closely with the Sr. Inventory Accountant and the Accounts Payable team
  • Record month-end inventory journal entries related to inventory reserves, donations and the amortization of capitalizable inventory costs not included in standard cost
  • Monitor the balance sheet reconciliation tracker making necessary updates for new balance sheet accounts and validating zero balance and limited activity accounts on a monthly basis
  • Perform roll forward procedures of the financial reporting package utilized for our parent company reporting
  • Prepare the monthly fixed asset roll forward used within our quarterly reporting to the parent company
  • Meet with members of Payroll, Accounts Payable, Credit, Financial Planning amp; Analysis and other General Ledger team members to understand their roles, areas of responsibility and current project focuses
Project:
  • As a part of your experience as an intern at Brooks, you will have the opportunity to complete a project under the support and supervision of your manager. Details of your project will be finalized once you arrive at Brooks based on your interests, and the needs of the business. You will present your work and findings to leadership at Brooks at the end of your internship, to hone in on your research, recommendation, and presentation skills.
Skills Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Willing to commit to the intern position for three months onsite in Seattle, WA
  • Willingness to learn and gain hands-on experience
  • Able to commit to up to 40 hours a week to be physically present at HQ
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.
  • Must be able to collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
