Responsibilities



The Occupational Therapist will work Regular Full-Time Days and will evaluate and treat patients in acute care, nursing home, short term rehabilitation and out-patient settings.

  • The Occupational Therapist will assist in quality improvement and new programming initiative development.
  • As an Occupational Therapist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary care team.
  • The Occupational Therapist oversees the services provided by Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and aides.
  • Report to the Director of Rehabilitation Services.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs a comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and safety assessment as evidenced by clinical documentation.
  • Identifies those functional problems that require occupational therapy intervention based on an accurate assessment of the patient’s status.
  • Develops a plan of care to promote optimum function and safety, as documented in the clinical record.
  • Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal patient care and communication.
  • Completes all required paperwork following treatment and procedures to ensure that documentation reflects care provided and outcomes achieved.
  • Maintains and enhances personal knowledge, as well as promoting professional standards in occupational therapy.
  • Acts and/or delegates other clinical staff to act as a clinical education instructor for students who come from a variety of settings including independent or school-arranged student observations, New Visions, COTA, and OT programs.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives

Requirements

  • Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers.     • Graduate of program accredited by AOTA.
    Experience:
    • Requires two years of Occupational Therapy experience.
    • Interest in working with geriatric population.
    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Computer use knowledge and quick to learn new computer systems and use of electronic medical record.
    • Read, write, and speak fluent English.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Physical requirements of bending, squatting, twisting, stair climbing, walking, sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying items up to 35 lbs.
    • Ability to use equipment and techniques to safely assist patients to transfer, move in and out of bed and ambulate.
    Licenses/Certifications:
    • NYS license to practice Occupational therapy. BLS CPR.
