Job Description
Candle is seeking an experienced Manager, Accounting/Assistant Controller to support all aspects of the corporate accounting function and assist with consolidation and financial reporting at Candle as the company experiences a period of exciting growth and expansion. This individual will not only be responsible for managing the corporate accounting books, but also the accounting books of several subsidiary companies. This role will also assist the Sr. Director / Controller in building and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Candle Media accounting team, including oversight and consolidation of our subsidiary businesses. In this role, you will partner closely with the senior finance team and play a key role for the accounting operations of our rapidly growing company. You must be a hands-on, roll up your sleeves type of manager and should enjoy a fast-paced, start-up like environment. You will be responsible for providing accounting expertise, improving financial processes and supporting the development of a high performing accounting team. The ideal candidate is an energized, detail-oriented, process minded individual with deep knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. She/he should possess an enthusiasm to join at the ground level in a highly passionate, fast-paced and execution- oriented organization.
What you will do
- Provide strong accounting and financial management to ensure the integrity of the financial statements and conformance with standard GAAP accounting
- Assist in driving effective monthly/quarterly/annual closing processes to support analyses that foster a deeper understanding of the business that impacts future performance
- Work closely with the Sr. Director, Controller to prepare and issue quarterly and annual GAAP financial statements including footnotes and MDamp;A
- Maintain strong internal controls, manage financial audits, and serve as a point of contact with external auditors
- Oversee corporate accounting function and provide guidance as needed for all accounting matters
- Serve as accounting / finance lead for several subsidiaries with foreign operations, ensuring accurate month-end closing, financial reporting and application of U.S. GAAP
- Partner with FPamp;A team to support cash and GAAP forecasting, budgeting, and reporting
- Coordinate with tax team to provide information required to support tax compliance and planning initiatives
- Assess control environment through review of control activities; identify and concentrate on improvement opportunities in key, high risk areas
- Provide recommendations for new products to improve operational efficiency
- Preparation of operational and ad hoc reporting as required
Requirements
- 6 or more years accounting experience including consolidation of multiple businesses
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred
- Prior experience in a private-equity backed company a plus
- Ideal experience working in public accounting; entertainment industry; startup environments
- Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act is a plus
- Deep working technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and key principles of application for a wide array of finance and accounting areas
- Detail oriented with superior organization and excellent analytical skills
- Previous experience utilizing ERP systems required, Netsuite preferred
- Impactful business partner with strong communications and presentation skills able to effectively collaborate across departments and build trusted relationships
- Advanced Excel skills with experience working with popular startup/early-stage solutions
