Job Description
EMI Services is hiring a Water Plant Operator for Yuma Proving Grounds to control treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use. The ideal Water Plant Operator will have experience operating and controlling electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant and dumps specified amounts of chemicals to disinfect.
Key Responsibilities
- Use specific chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime to disinfect water
- Adjust automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.
- Start agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank
- Turn valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities, pumps purified water into water mains, monitors panel board and adjusts controls to regulator flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution of water
- Clean tanks and filter beds, using backwashing (reverse flow of water), repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand- and power tools
- Test water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities, using colorimeter, turbidimeter, and conductivity meter.
- Dump chemicals such as alum into tanks to coagulate impurities and reduce acidity,
- Record data, such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure
- Operate portable water-purification plant to supply drinking water, and purify wastewater from lant preparatory to pumping water into rivers and streams or city main.

Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent amounts of technical training and experience
- Specialized training and experience in the trade of Water Operations.
- Must be in the process of completing training, education and pass testing for a Water Plant Operator Class I License within one (1) to six (6) months.
- Ability to pass Water Plant Operator Class II within a year.
- Ability to maintain specialized education and license as defined by State and local guidelines.
