Business Intelligence Engineer
Onsite | St. Paul, MN

We are looking for a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to create and manage BI and analytics solutions that turn data into knowledge at BetterYou. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing data and storytelling through dashboards and reports that will be utilized primarily by the Product and Customer Success teams, but will have opportunities to work across other business units as well. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Data Engineering
    • Data acquisition and sourcing
    • Translate business needs to technical specifications
    • Maintain and support data analytics platforms
    • Manage tools to store data
  • Business Intelligence
    • Design, build and deploy BI solutions (e.g. reporting tools, dashboards)
    • Evaluate and improve existing BI systems
    • Develop and execute database queries and conduct ad hoc analyses
    • Create visualizations and reports for requested projects
  • Development/Backend Integration
    • Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting
    • Collaborate with development teams to integrate systems
    • Develop and update technical documentation

Requirements

Key Competencies, Skills, or Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Google Cloud Functions / FireBase
  • Understanding of various database architectures, incl. NoSQL databases
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Excellent analytical skills - ability to identify trends, patterns, and insights from data
  • Ability to create visually appealing reports and dashboards
  • Excellent communication skills with an emphasis of storytelling through data

Experience - Required:

  • 2-5 years of data engineering, business analytics, or relevant experience
  • Experience writing SQL on different platforms (e.g. BigQuery, Spark, Postgres, Oracle)
  • Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining
  • In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework
  • Data sourcing and visualization experience
  • Familiarity with BI technologies (e.g. Tableau, Looker/LookerStudio, Microsoft Power BI)

Experience - Preferred:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field
  • Experience with the Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience with clickstream data
  • Experience working in the health and wellness industry
  • Experience working at an agile startup
  • Experience with big data/NoSQL databases and cloud services: BigQuery, RDS, Redshift, Firestore
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets
