About James Michelle
When exposed to an artist’s work, it’s sometimes assumed the pieces were made easily. But anyone that has created beauty knows this is rarely true. Our most authentic expressions arise from our trials, and James Michelle is no exception. James Michelle Jewelry was born from ashes: the mother of a newborn, a marriage in disarray, the loss of both parents, homelessness, and a brand-new diagnosis: Lyme disease. Jamie (aka James) worked tirelessly through her disease. On her bad days, she would sketch and research. On her good days, she would create with everything she had. She found that through making jewelry her imagination traveled to places close to her heart like the ocean and mountains. With each design, she envisioned her muse. A girl who danced with the waves, hiked to watch the sunset and looked to the stars and moon for answers.

Responsibilities
Design amp; Development Calendar
- Builds, manages, and flexes calendar to ensure timely turnover of development, return of prototypes amp; samples, and content/market samples and placement of final production
- Monitors calendar daily to promote flow of development; apprises and resolves calendar variances with team
Development
- Reviews and oversees issuance of all specs for accuracy, completeness, quality, and affordability prior to release
- Recommends enhancements, construction and material options to elevate our brand, hitting financial requirements
- Supervises, schedules and tracks all pre-production samples to ensure exact execution of final design. Reviews and approves all production materials, addressing variances with vendors, design and production
- Reviews and communicates style/material minimums, material costs, and lead times to cross functional teams. Negotiates advantageous terms for these items as well as finished goods costing based on margin plans
Sourcing
- Works closely with the design teams on seasonal offering needs to provide options in materials, suppliers, techniques, and costs that are on brand
- Sources alternate manufacturers and material suppliers to provide options in materials, products, and techniques as needed while building a tight factory partner base
QA / Product Integrity
- Aims to instill quality in the product from onset of development through final production
- Reviews all components with an eye for quality and durability
Requirements
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in product development for jewelry with experience in development across materials (i.e., gold plated to solid gold)
- Demonstrated capabilities in development, sourcing, and managing the entire product development process
- Successful track record working in a fast-paced environment with a remote team (we are in Bend, Oregon and Los Angeles)
- Described as someone who is a great communicator, very detail oriented and a kind and collaborative human being
- Comfortable being creative and taking risks in pursuit of building a brand that will shape popular culture
