Position Summary

The Workforce Partnership Senior Accountant is an exempt staff position which has as its major responsibility the performance of accounting, banking, and organizational duties in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and controlling the accounting functions of the organization which include treasury, investments, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, fixed assets, cost allocations, and audits.

The Work

Works closely with all departments necessary to ensure that the processes, programs, and services are accomplished in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Lead the month-end accounting close process in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Walkthrough and document significant accounting processes and related internal controls.
  • Prepare schedules in support of various quarterly and annual financial audits and reviews.
  • Prepare and review journal entries as needed.
  • Perform monthly bank account and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Process month end and year end allocation.
  • Conduct monthly and annual closings.
  • Maintain chart of accounts and determine proper account coding for all classes of transactions in accordance with GAAP, applicable laws, regulations, and organization.
  • Create and review general ledger reports to ensure accuracy of general ledger activity.
  • Assist in communicating accounting treatments for effective budgeting and forecasting.
  • Work with management financial analysts and other departments to effectively communicate accounting treatments and justifications.
  • Prepare analyses and documents in preparation for the annual independent audits.
  • Work closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure the Finance department’s overall responsibilities are successfully achieved.
  • Perform other duties, special projects, and ad-hoc reporting as needed.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or 6+ years of related accounting experience
  • Minimum of 5-7 years progressive experience in accounting or auditing; and/or equivalent experience in public accounting
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles, financial statements, accounting theory, and internal controls
  • Personal commitment to excellence, integrity, and honesty in all dealings
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to build relationships with other team members both within and outside of the Finance department
  • Self-motivated, with a strong desire for continuous learning and ability to drive process improvement
  • Combination of profit and not-for-profit background gained in a complex environment with a complete understanding of fund accounting.
  • Strong systems background using an integrated financial software package and generally tech-savvy. Knowledge of MIP, ADP, PowerPlan, and Salesforce a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills must include Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements that will streamline and reduce month end close process and accounting processes.
