What would you do as a Patient Billing Manager?
The Patient Billing Manager is responsible for planning, organizing and leading Patient Billing and Records staff to meet departmental and organizational goals in a manner that places emphasis on quality patient care. You can expect to regularly:
Overall
- Assess department’s overall function and operations and execute changes as needed (process, procedure, etc.) to maximize effectiveness and efficiency;
- Monitor, analyze and report on assigned department’s financial reports;
- Use Electronic Health Records to pull reports and review data;
- Supervise and lead direct reports by motivating, inspiring, and supporting staff to a higher level of engagement, productivity, and quality outcomes;
- Conduct performance reviews, review work and provide educational and development opportunities for direct reports;
- Assist with personnel or patient situations that are escalated as needed;
- Develop and maintain effective communication within the organization;
- Collaborate with other manager level staff within the organization;
- Be a champion and a positive change agent for the organization’s mission, vision, guiding principles and initiatives.
Patient Billing
- Meet with department monthly to discuss current issues and updates;
- Provide monthly financial performance reports to the Director of Business Services on the previous month’s data;
- Research updates to medical billing industry and analyze impact to the organization.
Medical Records
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and the organization’s privacy practices and address issues as needed;
- Monitor HIPAA privacy regulations and investigate and resolve reported incidents.
Requirements
- Certifications/Education
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Knowledge of:
- Principles of leadership and management that focus on employee engagement and retention;
- Principles of medical billing workflows, including collecting patient payments, medical coding and payment posting;
- Fiscal management techniques, revenue cycle management, and third party reimbursement;
- Experience:
- Managing and leading groups in a healthcare environment, including planning, organizing and directing work to meet organizational goals;
- Interpreting and applying federal, state and/or local regulatory guidelines;
- Analyzing budget and financial data and compiling written reports to present to leadership;
- Deescalating tense situations with customers;
- Communicating effectively with all levels of employees (professional staff, managerial staff, front line staff, etc.) to resolve issues and concerns;
- Using computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office, entering data and typing.
Preferred Qualifications - How can you set yourself apart from other applicants?
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field;
- Experience using Epic, the electronic health records system.
