Job Title: Executive Steward
Location: Memphis, TN
Reports To: Director of Food amp; Beverage
Job Overview:
The Executive Steward is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the stewarding department a luxury hotel with 464 guest rooms, 16 meeting rooms, and 4 restaurants. This position includes managing the kitchen and dining room areas, supervising a team of stewards and dishwashers, and ensuring all equipment and supplies are maintained at a high level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the stewarding department, including coordinating with other departments to ensure smooth service and cleanliness.
- Hire, train, and supervise a team of stewards and dishwashers, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Develop and implement cleaning schedules and procedures to ensure all areas are kept clean and hygienic.
- Ensure all equipment and supplies are properly maintained and organized, including china, glassware, flatware, and kitchen equipment.
- Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and order additional items as needed.
- Oversee the operation of the hotel's dishwashing machines, ensuring they are maintained and working efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of all stewarding-related activities, including work orders, inventory levels, and staff schedules.
- Work with the Director of Food amp; Beverage and the Executive Chef to ensure all kitchen equipment is functioning properly and repairs are made in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and standards, including OSHA and FDA guidelines.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as banquets and housekeeping, to ensure smooth operations and seamless service.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Food amp; Beverage.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in hospitality or related field preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory role in a kitchen or stewarding department, preferably in a luxury hotel or restaurant.
- Knowledge of sanitation and safety guidelines for handling food, cleaning chemicals, and equipment.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Availability to work weekends and evenings, as needed.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift and move heavy objects, and work in hot and humid environments.
