Barbaricum seeks an experienced Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Scientist to provide support to a DHS customer. Specifically, this Scientist will support the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Office of Information Analysis Directorate and Strategy Plans and Policy Directorate at DHS with the goal of enhancing the Department’s abilities to prevent terrorists and other threat actors from using weapons of mass destruction. The CWMD office within DHS is responsible for coordinating with other Federal efforts and developing a strategy and policy for the Department to plan for, detect, and protect against the importation, possession, storage, transportation, development, or use of unauthorized chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear materials, devices, or agents in the United States and to protect against an attack using such materials, devices, or agents against the people, territory, or interests of the United States.Within the CWMD office, this Scientist will support the Threat Warning and Illumination and Targeting Support branches.This position alternates weekly between remote support and the DHS St. Elizabeth's Campus. Responsbilities
  • Conducts operational scientific and technical analysis in support of CWMD programs and mission areas.
  • Leads the development of a variety of analytic decision support products that meet National decision makers’ and stakeholders’ requirements.
  • Performs the functions of a technical expert in the relevant scientific field in support of CWMD programs.
  • Applies scientific expertise in defining and resolving system issues, performing analysis, and developing plans and requirements for further analysis.
  • Coordinates and manages the preparation of analysis, evaluations, and recommendations within CWMD programs in support of federal personnel.
Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret Clearance required
  • BA/BS degree in a scientific, engineering, medical, veterinary, public health, or related discipline (MA/MS preferred)
  • At least 3 years of professional experience
Desired Experience
  • Experience providing direct or consultant scientific support to major programs or system development efforts related to human, animal, or plant health and medical consequences of CBRN events.
  • Possess a combination of experience in these areas and the Homeland Security pillars of prevention, protection, response, or recovery.
