Job Description

Title: Director of Training
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience
Location: This position is remote with an optional Brooklyn-based office. Candidates must live and be authorized to work in the U.S.
Job Classification: Full time, Permanent, Exempt
Reports To: Vice President of Movement Building
Supervision Responsibilities: This position supervises 5-6 FT staff and several consultants
Travel Requirements: This position requires approximately 20% travel

Every day, we train hundreds of people to respond to, intervene in, and heal from harassment. We hold space for people experiencing harassment to share their stories for affirmation and support. And we prepare new leaders to create workplaces, schools, and communities around the world that are filled with humanity. So that we can all be who we are, wherever we are.

Over the past two years, Right To Be has significantly expanded our training program - particularly in the realm of sexual harassment and bystander intervention training. Our system of evaluation shows that it’s working: Right To Be’s training shows an 84% increase in self-reported ability to intervene in instances of hate and harassment. This finding has been echoed by the National Women’s Law Center, which notes that, while traditional liability-based training on harassment is failing, innovations in the field, such as bystander training, are seeing results.

In 2021, Right To Be trained over 250,000 people to intervene in, respond to and prevent harassment. We continue to innovate in the field with new training to support communities experiencing harm, such as bystander intervention to stop islamophobia/anti-semitic hate and harassment. We have established meaningful partnerships with organizations such as Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC and L’Oreal Paris to bring our methodologies to participants around the globe, in over 33 countries and languages.

Position Summary

Right to Be is seeking an experienced Director of Training, who will lead our dynamic training department. Reporting to the Vice President, the Director of Training will directly manage RTB’s training team and hold responsibility for overall departmental goals and success. The pace of this multifaceted role is fast-moving, dynamic, and requires the ability to effectively manage a team and engage with diverse groups of program stakeholders, including RTB's team, the clients we serve, funders, and other partners. The Director will measure and continually improve training quality and trainer/team development, support curriculum creation/implementation and sales and marketing efforts, build a pipeline of trainers for growth opportunities, and work closely with internal and external partners for program growth and success. The Director of Training will play a pivotal role in shaping Right to Be’s innovative and effective training initiatives and driving the organization's mission forward.

The Director of Training will be responsible for meeting annual key performance indicators (KPIs) for the number of people trained, as guided by internal goals and external partner agreements. Additionally, they will be responsible for supporting the successful launch of multiple trainings and programs per year as we and our services continue to expand and grow with the movement.

The Director of Training will manage a growing team, including full time staff, fellows, and consultants. The Director of Training may work in our Brooklyn office or remotely in the United States. Up to 20% travel is required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Training will be responsible for:

Management and Team Leadership (Approximately 40% of the role)

  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Executive Team to develop and execute the Training department's strategic vision, aligning it with the overall mission and goals of RIght to Be. Develop and manage against annual departmental goals with feedback from the Executive Team.
  • Program Development: Lead the design, development, and enhancement of Right to Be’s training programs, ensuring they are current, relevant, and meet the needs of our target audiences. Report to the Executive Team on KPIs monthly and do a quarterly deep dive with the Executive Team on progress towards goals.
